Collection: Smart Lapidary

Getting the right tools to do the job can be difficult - most lapidary tools are not really suited to cutting boulder opal. Here are my custom made tools as well as some standard products that I use and recommend for cutting boulder opal, Lightning Ridge and Coober Pedy opal. I use wet saws and grinders up to pre-form stage and then dry-sanding to pre-polish. Boulder opal is rarely just convex like a standard cab, so the process is more like carving than cabbing. Specialised tools make the job easy and I have spent years refining the process to be able to offer this selection of tools.
